School of the Eclipse (ongoing)

by Kaisu Koski and Penny McCarthy

School of the Eclipse conceives Botanical Gardens as living archives of our colonial past and urban sites of multispecies trauma. Through disciplines of performance, drawing, moving image and song, it explores the tension between care and violence in botanical multi-species relationships, as these emerge from colonial power-imbalances and hierarchies. In the new artworks resulting from this collaboration, we will generate shared and individual visual-performative gestures to challenge the instrumentalist attitudes that still manifest in architectures such as the Bear Pit.
